Our Programs

Kenya’s youth-heavy population is already placing strains on the labour market, which is struggling to accommodate the fast-growing numbers of young people. Society, moreover, is not yet allowing young people the voice and influence in decision-making that they desire. In the coming decades, the number of young people is projected to increase sharply, meaning that finding outlets for youth to express their potential will become an ever more pressing challenge. The 15–24 age group accounts for 20.1 per cent of the country’s population. Such a large share of youth mirrors the demographic picture in Sub-Saharan Africa as a whole.

In 2013, amid increasing concern about youth unemployment and associated risks of political instability, the government of Kenya pledged to enhance employment opportunities for youth as part of its ‘Vision 2030’. The government committed to create one million new jobs, to encourage entrepreneurship through providing loans, and to earmark 30 per cent of public procurement for youth-led businesses, much of which has not materialized and underserved communities do not reach these opportunities because they are highly competitive.

We are committed to the creation of opportunities aimed at empowering young people from underserved backgrounds with community-changing ideas to uplift their communities from adversities. We empower through various interventions and programs.

Jikimu Social Entrepreneurship Program

This flagship program equips young people with the skills, mentorship, and resources to create social enterprises that address unemployment and climate issues. From business training to seed funding, we help bring ideas to life that positively impact society.

Mashinani Social Entrepreneurship Program

In partnership with environmental organizations, we are developing pathways for youth employment in the green economy. By promoting sustainable farming, waste management, renewable energy, and eco-friendly innovations, we are preparing the next generation to fight climate change.

Vipaji Social Entrepreneurship Program

With the increasing commercialization of sporting activities, greater opportunities for professional mainstream talents and many other untapped talents in Kenya can be developed and empowered as a way of improving people’s standards of living rather than using it as a pass-time hobby.

Uwezo Social Entrepreneurship Program

We provide various seed grants to the social entrepreneurs in our different program to help them kick-start their ideas. The beneficiaries of our grants program generate income and savings from their social enterprises that improve their standards of living and break the cycle of poverty for themselves and their families.
